City’s International Film Festival Takes Centre Stage
The City of Melville will showcase a myriad of films from across the world as part of its International Film Festival, to be held from Monday, 20 July to Friday, 24 July 2009.
Featuring a range of acclaimed international films such as: Vicky Cristina, Barcelona (Spain); Hunting & Gathering (France); Tulpan (Kazakhstan); Bra Boys (Australia); Caramel (Lebanon); Two Days in Paris (France); Aaja Nachle (India); Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (India); and Roadside Romeo (India), the festival will culminate with Brazilian film Bossa Nova, which will be screened as part of the Brazilian-themed closing night.
The International Film Festival is a great opportunity for locals to access and enjoy movies from across the world, with all sessions being held at Nexus Theatre, Murdoch University, South Street, Murdoch. Films will be screened daily at 10.30am and 6.30pm. Morning sessions are free and evening sessions cost $7.00 with tickets for sale at the door (no concessions; excludes closing night).
Community Events Officer Kate Schilling said she was particularly excited about the special closing night celebration on Friday, 24 July. “Prior to the screening of Brazilian film Bossa Nova, everyone is invited to come along and enjoy a Brazilian-themed party starting at 6.00pm with Brazilian cuisine, drinks, music by the Aquela Trio and Capoeira performed by the Muzenza Capoeira Group,” she said. “For your chance to enjoy a taste of Brazil call 1300 635 845 to make an essential booking for closing night. Tickets are $20.00 per person (no concessions), and patrons must be aged 18 years or over.”
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the International Film Festival gave the City an opportunity to celebrate cultural diversity within the municipality through cinema. “With films from Australia, Europe and Asia, the City’s residents and visitors are sure to be entertained by original films with a cultural twist,” he said. “I encourage all residents to make the most of this unique opportunity to see some award-winning films, which cover a variety of genres including drama, comedy, romance, documentary and children’s comedy.”
All foreign language movies have English subtitles and film-goers can park in car park No. 3, at Murdoch University.
