City Supports Centre’s Search for Exceptional Teachers
The Bahá’í Centre, in Myaree, is calling for nominations for its Teachers Appreciation Day on Saturday, 3 November 2007.
Teachers Appreciation Day, proudly supported by the City of Melville, acknowledges and celebrates the exceptional work of teachers in the local community.
Mayor Katherine Jackson said teachers provided an essential service within the community and it was important that their work was celebrated. “The Bahá’í Community recognises the education and training of children as one of the most commendable acts of humankind,” she said. “The City of Melville was delighted to support the Bahá’í Centre’s cause.”
The City of Melville awards community grants each year to various groups within the municipality. The Bahá’í Centre’s application for a community grant to host Teachers Appreciation Day was awarded at the Community Grants Award night in August 2007.
Bahá’í Centre member Nahid Meshgin said hosting Teachers Appreciation Day was important to the Baha’i Community as teachers were highly acknowledged in Bahá’í writings. “Bahá’í writing states that education is the indispensable foundation of all human excellence,” she said. “This event, co-sponsored by the City of Melville, celebrates and honours the role that teachers play in educating and training children.”
All primary school students within the City of Melville are encouraged to nominate their teacher for an award of recognition. Nominations are required by Friday, 12 October 2007.
