City says it’s High Time for Tea
The City of Melville’s Volunteer Resource Centre (MVRC) invites all local volunteers to a special high tea on Friday, 24 October from 3.00pm to 6.30pm as part of this year’s volunteer recognition event
The free annual celebration at the Melville Civic Centre will include a delicious afternoon tea, entertainment from well-known minstrel group Osmosis and an opportunity to meet other residents who volunteer in the City of Melville.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the City established the MVRC, through funding from Department for Communities, to provide and coordinate volunteering opportunities in the area. “The City would like to acknowledge and thank our community volunteers for all their time and effort in helping to make the City of Melville a more vibrant community to live,” he said. “MVRC supports more than 200 not-for-profit community organisations and since 2003 has successfully linked more than 1700 residents to volunteer roles in the City,” he said.
MVRC Coordinator Nicola Schuman said the event recognised the enthusiasm, generosity and valuable contributions that volunteers made to our community. “The annual volunteer recognition function was formerly held earlier in the year, however, this year to tie in with our new marketing campaign, It’s What I Do, and in recognition of the City’s 40th Anniversary celebrations, the special event will be celebrated in October,” she said. “The help that volunteers give is invaluable and the high tea is a chance to congratulate local volunteers on their hard work.”
The aim of the It’s What I Do campaign is to highlight the diversity of people who volunteer and the many varied ways they contribute to the community. “There is an incredible amount of people achieving some wonderful things in our community and the campaign is just one way to celebrate the work of these dedicated and caring volunteers,” said Ms Schuman. “We encourage local volunteers and organisations to join us in this celebration of their efforts.”
