City Ratepayers Score Major Prize for Paying Rates Early
City of Melville ratepayers Peter and Karen Phillips were on Wednesday, 30 September 2009 rewarded with a $3000 Bonus Saver Account from Westpac Banking Corporation for paying their rates early.
Mayor Russell Aubrey, Chief Executive Officer Dr Shayne Silcox and Westpac Commercial Banking Senior Relationship Manager Daryl Chatt presented Mr and Mrs Phillips, of Winthrop, with their prize at the City’s Civic Centre as part of a Westpac Rates Promotion.
Mayor Aubrey said anyone who paid their rates before the early payment date automatically went into the draw to win the annual $3000 Westpac Bonus Saver Account. “We congratulate Mr and Mrs Phillips on their good fortune and trust their prize will be put to good use. The City encourages residents to pay their rates early and prizes like these provide them an extra incentive to do so,” he said.
Mrs Phillips said it was a “great surprise” to be told the good news. “I was thrilled as it was totally unexpected and the first time I have won anything major. The prize might go towards paying for some of our daughter’s wedding, which is coming up next year,” she said.
Westpac Commercial Banking Senior Relationship Manager Daryl Chatt said: “Westpac is proud to be involved with the City of Melville in sponsoring this prize annually. The incentive is a real win-win in providing a tangible prize to the ratepayers while allowing the City to raise its revenue more efficiently to the ultimate benefit of the community.”
