City of Melville Launches New Grants Scheme

Published Date: 06 April 2009, 12:00 AM

The City of Melville’s new Community Partnership Funding is offering up to $10,000 for programs, events, activities and initiatives that benefit the local community. The grants scheme incorporates the former Major and Minor Community Grants, Seniors Assistance Fund and Festival Grants.

Acting Manager Community Development Leanne Hartill said the scheme took into account the social, cultural, economic and environmental areas the community saw as important, as detailed in the City’s Community Plan, People Places Participation.

“The Community Partnership Funding will consider community projects or initiatives which: encourage community participation; build a sense of community spirit; and develop community and seniors support to improve well-being, lifestyle experience and economic opportunities,” she said.

“Submissions are welcome from not-for-profit organisations and incorporated community groups for any of the three levels of funding available. Level One ($5,000 to $10,000) will be offered once a year, while Level Two ($1,000 - $4,999) and Level Three (up to $1,000) will be available throughout the year. Submissions for the Level One grants will close on Friday, 29 May 2009,” she said.

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the City of Melville aimed to work collaboratively with local groups and service providers to build a sense of community spirit. “This is about connecting and celebrating communities so that everyone feels a part of their neighbourhood,” he said.
