City of Melville Hires New CEO with Proven Track Record
The City of Melville has announced Dr Shayne Silcox as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Dr Silcox, who is the current CEO of the City of Belmont, was selected after a thorough, Australia-wide recruitment process, which attracted a list of highly qualified applicants for the City’s top job.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said Dr Silcox had a fantastic track record, including winning state and national awards for customer service in local government as well as accolades for crime prevention. “Shayne is the man for the moment at Melville,” he said. “With our current focus on community consultation, customer satisfaction and community safety and security, he will be of great benefit to where the City of Melville is heading.”
Dr Silcox has been employed on five-year contract, starting 20 March 2008. He replaces Eric Lumsden who resigned to take up the role of Director-General at the Department for Planning and Infrastructure in November.
Mayor Aubrey said Dr Silcox’s appointment was a great move forward for the City of Melville. “He is a highly qualified, vibrant and charismatic character who I believe is capable of uniting the community, Council officers and Elected Members and leading the City of Melville for years to come,” he said. “He was the unanimous choice of the selection committee and was also unanimously endorsed by the Elected Members. My enthusiasm is shared by Shayne who is looking forward to starting at the City of Melville and putting his feet under the CEO’s desk,” he said.
Dr Silcox has been the CEO of the City of Belmont since 2004 and was previously CEO at the City of Nedlands for four years. He has a PhD in Management and Marketing, a Masters of Commerce, a Postgraduate Diploma in Management and a Bachelor of Business.
Mayor Aubrey acknowledged the work of Acting Chief Executive Officer Marten Tieleman who will remain in the position until Dr Silcox arrives in March.
