City Of Melville Gets On Board For Captain Crabclaw’s Pirate Party
The City of Melville invites apprentice pirates to get on board for Captain Crabclaw’s Pirate Party, a free event to be held at AH Bracks Library on Friday, 29 May 2009.
The pirate party, being held from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, is to celebrate the release of a rollicking new book by Frances Watts and David Legge. The book Captain Crabclaw’s Crew is an epic adventure on board his ship, the Speedy Squid, and his search for a fearsome crew - but Captain Crabclaw did not expect to look for treasure with a duck, a cow, a chicken, an elephant and a giraffe.
Special Services Librarian Dominique Ward said the tale of the most unusual pirate crew the high seas had ever seen was sure to delight landlubbers young and old. “The City of Melville’s AH Bracks Library is proud to host the pirate party, presented by The Sunday Times Little Big Book Club and the Better Beginnings family literacy program,” she said. “This a fun way of getting children aged from four to seven years even more involved with their local library. The author Frances Watts and illustrator David Legge are known for their quirky and innovative early childhood books, so we look forward to what promises to be another great release.”
Mayor Russell Aubrey said that with a treasure chest of fun on offer, budding buccaneers’ could look forward to some swashbuckling story-telling, drawing, and hearty songs. “The book launch at AH Bracks Library is a great example of the diversity of offerings at our wonderful libraries,” he said. “This event is sure to get little ones grinning, but no matter what your age, the City’s libraries offer many opportunities to learn - in fun and interactive ways. In this case, it’s a chance to combine reading with a party and an epic adventure on the high seas.”
Each child who participates will receive a free Captain Crabclaw activity book and stick-on tattoo, with book-signing available after the party.
Bookings are essential and can be made at AH Bracks Library, corner Stock Road and Canning Highway, Melville or by phoning 9364 0115.
