With carnival rides, rock climbing, a DJ and more, the City of Melville’s The Vault Exposed event is set to get young people aged 12 to 25 to the City’s youth space The Vault on Thursday, 29 April 2010 from 3.00pm to 7.00pm.

Activities will also include airbrush tattoos, a sausage sizzle and a prize draw for an iPod.
Music and entertainment will be provided by MSJ Productions, The Dance Collective, Spin n Effects and more. Information on health and wellbeing will be available from a number of organisations such as the Australian Red Cross and mental health provider Headspace. Local organisations will also provide valuable advice and information on safety, sport and recreation, careers and arts.

Community Development Officer – Youth, Callum Prior said The Vault Exposed aimed to address a number of concerns which arose as part of RESET ¬¬– a recent research initiative conducted by young people, for young people who lived in the City of Melville or went to school in the municipality. “RESET identified a number of topics as being of high importance to young people, including: entertainment and recreation; education, careers and training; relationships with parents; sport and recreation; safety; health and wellbeing,” he said.

“The Vault Exposed is an all encompassing event where young people and their families can get information on topics that young people have identified as being of importance to them, in a laid-back and fun environment with rides and entertainment.”

Mayor Russell Aubrey said The Vault Exposed provided a great opportunity for young people to enjoy music, rides and other entertainment and to find out about local facilities and services at the same time. “The Vault is a fun and vibrant space for young people to hang out – especially on Thursday afternoons with its regular ‘chill out sessions’,” he said.

“The Vault is utilised by numerous youth-focused community groups and gives young people the chance to have fun, to have a say, and to have support from the City’s Youth Engagement Officers.”

The Vault Exposed will be held at The Vault Youth Space, 10 Almondbury Road, Booragoon behind Hoyts cinemas and will be supervised by the City of Melville’s Community Development Officers.
