City Funds Constable Care in Classrooms
The City of Melville has today (Monday, 22 November) announced a three-year funding agreement with the Constable Care Child Safety Foundation to provide the popular Constable Care education program in 24 local primary schools.
Constable Care is a nationally registered charity and the puppet shows specialise in the delivery of life skills education programs to children aged between five and 12 years.
The City of Melville’s $30,000 funding covers the cost of Constable Care life skills presentations with merit awards to eight primary schools each year, for three years.
The funding has been awarded as part of the City’s Safer Melville plan.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said the City was proud to fund the Constable Care life skills education programs.
“All primary schools will have the opportunity to implement early intervention Constable Care shows in their local schools on a range of topics including: road safety; bullying; respect; graffiti; and stranger danger,” he said.
“Research shows the earlier children are encouraged to develop positive self image, self esteem and a feeling of uniqueness, the better equipped they are to make positive, healthy choices later in life.
“By using puppet shows and plays the program conveys key messages and provides supporting tools, such as discussion sessions and activity books to reinforce learning in the classroom.
“The puppet shows speak directly to children in a language they understand and in a format that is engaging and, most importantly, from a retention perspective, fun.
“The puppet shows offer a live and dynamic medium to engage young minds and help steer them in the right direction.”
Constable Care Sales and Marketing Manager Sonia Sain said the City’s funding had been gratefully received.
“Constable Care is a charity and relies on the generosity of our donors,” she said.
“We know the children enjoy and learn from the program. We are delighted to accept this three-year funding from the City of Melville.
“The funding agreement represents an important investment in the community’s well-being and safety.”
