The City of Melville is embracing its cultural diversity by bringing 10 acclaimed international films to the silver screen next month for its annual International Film Festival.

The International Film Festival, which has previously been held as part of the Festival of Melville celebrations in March, will this year run from Monday, 11 August to Friday 15 August at Murdoch University’s Nexus Theatre.

The festival will feature a myriad of international films such as Bella (USA/Mexico), My Best Friend (France), The Home Song Stories (Australia), My Best Enemy (Italy), The Life of Others (Germany), The Secret of the Grain (France), The Italian (Russia) and Journey of a Woman (India).

Mayor Russell Aubrey said the International Film Festival was a celebration of the cultural diversity within the City of Melville. “The film festival, now in its sixth year, celebrates the City’s cultural diversity and gives the community an opportunity to enjoy international films at a low cost,” he said. “We encourage all our residents to get down to the theatre and make the most of this opportunity.”

German film The Life of Others is one of the most successful films of the line-up, having been nominated for a Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Film in 2006. The film revolves around the East German Government and their ruthless efforts to stay in power.

Films will be screened daily at 10.30am and 7.00pm. Morning Sessions are free and evening sessions cost $7.00, except for the final movie Journey of a Woman which costs $10.00 and includes drinks and nibbles at a Bollywood-inspired closing night celebration before the movie.
