Celebrate Our Backyard at Atwell Arts Centre and Gallery
The Melville Community Arts Association and City of Melville are taking art to the outdoors as part of the 2007 Festival of Melville.
From 14 to 25 March, the association is hosting a Celebrating Our Backyard community, environment and heritage exhibition in the Atwell Arts Centre and Gallery backyard and is also running The Big Paintout on Saturday, 17 March.
The Council is loaning the association a range of photographs and other materials from its museums and local history archives as well as 16 works from the Council’s art collection for the exhibition.
Mayor Katherine Jackson said the exhibition was a great way for residents to learn about and celebrate the history of the area. “The Council is happy to be able to support the exhibition that is being held at the gallery’s beautiful riverside location on the edge of the marine park at Alfred Cove,” she said. “We are always interested in hearing from community members who would like to contribute photos or other items to our Museums and Local History collection.”
Residents can also take part in The Big Paintout in the Atwell Gallery backyard on Saturday, 17 March, from 8:30am to 11:30am. The event will involve community groups putting on a range of arts and crafts activities for children and adults.
