Buster’s Back In Time for School
Buster the Fun Bus is on a school holiday break but will be back supporting parents and kids from Tuesday, 21 July 2009.
Neighbourhood Development Officer Teresa Campbell said Buster the Fun Bus was a free parenting support service that encouraged parents to meet informally, create networks and enjoy their local area. “While parents mingle, meet and greet they have access to support, information and resources to enhance their parenting skills,” she said. “Children, who must be supervised, have the chance to learn and grow through developmentally-appropriate activities encouraged through games, toys and interaction.”
“Buster the Fun Bus has operated throughout the Cities of Melville, Fremantle and Cockburn for the past 25 years, travelling to community parks and venues to make support for parents more accessible and frequent,” she said. “Buster the Fun Bus is coordinated by the City of Fremantle with funding also provided by the Cities of Melville and Cockburn, and the Department for Communities.”
Mayor Russell Aubrey said Buster the Fun Bus was a fantastic community service that encouraged positive interactions between parents and children. “Buster the Fun Bus supports parents and assists them to participate positively in their children’s play,” he said. “The City of Melville prides itself on being a family-oriented municipality and this is just one way residents can access support in the early years of parenting – which can often be quite challenging.”
Buster the Fun Bus sessions run four days per week from Monday to Thursday. Morning sessions for 0 to 5-year-olds run from 9.30am to 11.30am and afternoon sessions for primary school-aged children run from 3.00pm to 5.00pm.
Buster the Fun Bus visits the City of Melville on Thursdays, stopping at St Basil’s Church, Somerville Boulevard, Winthrop for morning sessions and at Bull Creek Community Centre, Leichhardt Street, Bull Creek for afternoon sessions.
