Bikeweek to be Celebrated with Free Brekkie in Mount Pleasant
The City of Melville has invited cyclists, walkers and public transport users to a free Cycle Instead Bikeweek 2011 event on Thursday 24 March 2011 where people can enjoy a complimentary breakfast in celebration of active transport modes.
Cycle Instead Bikeweek 2011 runs from Saturday, 19 March to Sunday, 27 March and is an annual celebration of cycling coordinated by the State Department of Transport.
Mayor Russell Aubrey said, “As a thankyou to all cyclists, walkers and public transport users, they’re invited to stop in for a free sausage sizzle, with juice and coffee, on their way to work.”
“For the fourth year running, the Melville Bikeweek Breakfast will be staged at Apex Park near Canning Bridge, Mount Pleasant. We wish to encourage cyclists, walkers and public transport users of all abilities to come along, eat, drink and enjoy the company of other active transport users.
“If people arrive early they will have a chance to score some great giveaways. It’s the perfect pit-stop!”
Cycle Instead Bikeweek has grown each year, thanks to the efforts made by local governments, community groups, workplaces, cycling organisations and schools across the State.
Last year more than 14,000 adults and 20,000 students participated in Cycle Instead Bikeweek. The calendar includes a number of major events, as well as community rides and breakfasts, cycling skills workshops, slow bike rides, treasure hunts, bicycle swap meets and film screenings.
The Melville Bikeweek Breakfast will be held on Thursday, 24 March 2001 from 6.30am to 9.30am at Apex Park, The Esplanade, near Canning Bridge, Mount Pleasant (next to the Swan River Rowing Club).
The event is proudly supported by the City of Melville and the State Department of Transport working together to encourage active transport modes.
