Aspiring Athletes Jump at Scholarship
Young athletes with aspirations to compete at the highest level in sport are invited to apply now for the City of Melville’s Youth Sports Scholarship Scheme before the closing date on Friday, 31 August 2012.
The City’s annual Scholarship Scheme is targeted at young athletes of any sport, with successful applicants receiving 12-months free access to both Melville Aquatic Fitness Centre and Melville Recreation Centre.
City of Melville Acting Mayor Clive Robartson said the Scholarship Scheme offers elite athletes between 12 and 19 years of age the opportunity to train regularly and close to home at modern multi-purpose recreation and sport facilities.
“In offering unlimited access to swimming pools, state-of-the-art gymnasiums and a variety of recreation and sporting services, the City is proud to support local young athletes in-training to focus on their sporting goals and further develop their athletic abilities,” he said.
A winner of the Scholarship Scheme in 2011-2012 Solomon Wright said “I am so thankful for this opportunity. It has allowed me to develop as a swimmer and also to achieve some of my goals in the pool.”
While the Youth Sports Scholarship Scheme is targeted at athletes who have represented the State or at a higher level, consideration will also be given to athletes who are showing potential.
Applicants are encouraged to lodge their applications at melinfo@melville.wa.gov.au with all details available on the City’s website. Forms are also available from the City’s recreation facilities.
Applicants must live in the City of Melville and their application should be supported by the appropriate WA State Sporting Organisation, without which the application will not be considered. Please note, dependent on age access to some of the facilities may be limited.
Applications close on Friday, 31 August 2012.
