Artists Invited to Enter 30th City of Melville Art Awards
Artists from across Western Australia have until Friday, 3 August, to enter works in the City of Melville Art Awards 2007.
This year is the 30th year the City has run the Art Awards, which will be held at the Melville Civic Centre from 25 August to 1 September.
Mayor Katherine Jackson said over the past 30 years, the art awards had grown into one of the City’s most prestigious and well-received cultural events. “The awards provide an avenue for artists, from students to professionals, to exhibit their works and receive recognition,” she said. “It also draws attention to the work of our vibrant local arts community.”
The 2007 award categories and associated prize money are:
· Acrylic $1000
· Mixed Media $1000
· Oil $1000
· Pastel $1000
· Photography $1000
· Sculpture/3D $1000
· Textile $1000
· Watercolour $1000
· Work on Paper $1000
· Youth $500
· People’s Choice (all works entered automatically) $500
· Work by City of Melville Resident $1500
· Judges’ Choice (all works entered automatically) $1500
The winners will be announced at the opening ceremony on Friday 24 August, 6.00pm to 8.00pm.
Community Development Officer – Arts, Lee Ord said the City of Melville Art Awards had taken many forms over the past 30 years. “They have been run on behalf of the City by community groups such as Melville Community Arts Association and have been held at a number of locations such as the Civic Centre main hall and Heathcote,” she said. “The number of categories has increased over the years, including the recent additions of the textile and photography sections. We have also doubled the prize money over the past three years.”
Entries for the City of Melville Art Awards 2007 close 5.00pm, Friday, 3 August 2007. Late entries will not be accepted.
