Artists Crowned at City of Melville Art Awards
Artists from across Western Australia had their talents recognised at the 30th anniversary of the City of Melville Art Awards, held at the Melville Civic Centre.
The winners of 12 of the 13 categories were announced at the opening ceremony on Friday, 24 August, with the People’s Choice Award being awarded at the end of the exhibition on Sunday, 2 September 2007.
Mayor Katherine Jackson said over the past 30 years, the art awards had grown into one of the City’s most prestigious and well-received cultural events. “The awards provide an avenue for artists, from students to professionals, to exhibit their works and receive recognition,” she said. “The 2007 art award category winners displayed exceptional talent, individuality and imagination in their work.”
Well-known curator and Artist’s Chronical editor Lyn Diciero, sculptor Simon Gilby and artist and sculptor Chris Williamson comprised the panel of judges who had the difficult task of selecting winners for 12 of the 13 categories.
