Dome Commences Demolition at Deep Water Point

A lease agreement between the City of Melville and the Dome Group has now been formalised, making way for works to commence on the construction of a new Café at the iconic Deep Water Point.

Construction for the new purpose built structure is expected to begin next week at the site, following approval by Council at a special meeting on Tuesday, 27 June, to demolish the existing Deep Water Point kiosk building.

The works area, which will include the playground area will be fenced off from Monday, 3 July 2017, to allow for the demolition to commence over the following days, with the complete project expected to take approximately six months. Dome will aim to open their doors to the community prior to Christmas 2017.

City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said the upgrade of the iconic site aligned with the City’s ongoing priorities to maintain and upgrade the community’s assets where needed, ensuring they enhance amenity and are fit for use across generations, as well protecting our natural assets.

“The first stage of upgrades to the change rooms and toilet block are now almost complete with the addition of a ‘Changing Place’ facility, that will offer people with disabilities access to convenient and appropriate facilities so they can also comfortably visit the reserve,” said Mayor Aubrey.

“The new Café is the next step in a series of upgrades at the site and was successfully secured by Dome through a tender process. The new facility will also include a new playground and community facility that will be run by the Dome Group.

“The current upgrades, which were identified in the Concept Plan for Deep Water Point following input from the community, will be later followed with foreshore revetment works between the jetty and the boat ramp starting early 2018 and an improved boat ramp which will be constructed in mid 2018.”
