Healthy Melville turns one
The City of Melville’s Healthy Melville initiative will celebrate its first birthday with a celebratory anniversary party at Booragoon LeisureFit on Friday, 18 March 2016.
Healthy Melville’s aim is to support the health of the City’s community by encouraging community uptake of health lifestyles and providing a mobile face of the City’s great services and expertise available at the City’s LeisureFit facilities.
Healthy Melville is the City’s vision for the community and includes a variety of programs and services that help people achieve their healthy lifestyle goals.
The City will also celebrate the conclusion of our Active In The Park classes for the summer/autumn period – to reconvene in spring 2016.
More than 2,500 people have participated in Active in the Park classes, since November 2015.
The anniversary party will include free activities for children, free healthy snacks, face painting, balloon sculpting along with free fitness passes, prizes and giveaways.
City of Melville Mayor Russell Aubrey said Healthy Melville was a unique initiative which enabled staff to get out and about in the community promoting healthy lifestyles.
“The feedback from the community about Healthy Melville has been amazing,” Mayor Aubrey said.
“With our free finesses classes attracting around 100 people per class – it shows the value this initiative has offered our community, breaks down barriers for community members who might want to participate in group fitness, but may not feel confident attending a class at a centre.
“It gives people that little confidence boost to try something different, while expanding their physical capabilities.”
Mr Aubrey said Healthy Melville would not be possible without the support of the City’s sponsors including, Melville Holden, St John of God Hospital, Pharmacy 777, Garden City Shopping Centre, Act, Belong, Commit and Airconomic.
The event will run from 9.30am to 11.30am on Friday, 18 March at Booragoon LeisureFit.
