The closure has been necessary as the pool is a big user of gas for pool and space heating, putting presure on the State's already limited gas supplies. The City is also making energy cutbacks at all other Council buildings and facilities.

The pool will be closed on Saturday following the completion of the morning swim lessons.

Pool users will still be catered for with practically all swim school classes and other programs being moved to Melville Aquatic Fitness Centre. All other programs and facilities at Leeming Recreation Centre will run as normal.

The City of Melville will keep patrons  informed of any developments regarding the gas shortage.
