Exciting times for Lifestyle Services!

30 September 2011

Along with the new areas that are being constructed, there are a number of other refurbishments taking place in the coming weeks to ensure that the entire centre looks as good!

  • The health club changerooms have just been re-tiled
  • The 50m pool grand stand seating is being replaced with new aluminium benches
  • The flooring under the grand stand seating is also being refurbished
  • The health lounge will be having some re-tiling works
  • Landscaping outside the 50m pool will be continuing

23 September 2011

The roof of the expanded health club has now gone on so we are nearly at the stage of having a completed shell.

Many of the internal walls for new changerooms, storerooms and offices have now gone up and the new storeroom at the back of the RPM studio is almost complete.

06 September 2011

Visitors can really get an idea of the size of the extensions with the shell going up so quickly.

A number of new signs have also gone up around the centre. The bus bays at the rear of the centre are now clearly marked to prevent visitors using them. This will help to provide a safe entry for school groups entering the pool via the back entrance, eliminating the need for groups of children to cross the road and carpark.

26 August 2011

And the roof has been started!

The steel support beams have been erected ready for the roof to go onto the health club area.

Our new directional signage has arrived to ensure that patrons can easily find their way around the centre and use the most appropriate entry point. The new signage also ensures that bus parkling is available for the safety of school groups visiting the centre.

The concrete pad has been poured where the outdoor water playground plant room is to be built.

19 August 2011

The walls have started going up!

Visitors can see what a huge space we have for the new health club now that the shell has started to be erected. Lifestyle Services staff are also getting excited as we can now start to visualise how the area will be set up for use.

Program Space 3 (the current temporary RPM studio) also received a new roof during the week to ensure that the space is completely water tight and insulated. This space will become a multi-purpose room once the upgrade is completed, for the community to use for birthday parties, or hire as a meeting space.

Works have continued on the area outside the dive pool. This area will be receiving some new turf, and have paved sections, to create a family friendly space for use during the upcoming summer months.

11 August 2011

The Health Club Courtyard floor is now complete, with the courtyard back open to members and visitors on Monday 8 August. The new surface provides a much safer, cleaner area for exercise.

Visitors will also have noticed that we have commenced works to reviatlise the garden areas surrounding, and within the dive pool courtyard.

Builders have now also competed the limestone retaining wall for the outdoor water playground area, and swimmers can now see what a great space this will be.

The builders have also erected the support posts at the end of the new Health Club and Group Fitness areas, ready for the concrete tilt panels to be lifted in place. The panels themselves were constructed on site and are ready to go.

A crane will be on site tomorrow, ready for action.

29 July 2011

The concrete slabs are almost finished for the new health club area and we can now see just how big this space will be. The retaining wall for the outdoor water playground area is also almost finished and the contractors are now starting to waterproof the wall and backfill the area behind.

Work has also started inside, with the new internal walls separating health club from changerooms and office space taking shape.

25 July 2011

The Health club Courtyard floor will be receiving a much needed makeover next week. As such the Health Club Courtyard will be closed from 12.00pm Monday 1 August to Monday 8 August inclusive, re-opening Tuesday 9 August.

The works include removal of existing flooring, the laying of a concrete pad and installation of rubber tiles. These much needed works will ensure the area remains safe, contemporary and suitable for exercise both before and after the MAFC upgrade is completed.

15 July 2011

During the week, the construction team from Badge have proceeded to pour the concrete foundations for the future gymnasium and group fitness extensions. The limestone retaining wall is almost completed in the outdoor interactive water playground area.

Small power and water shutdowns have had minimal impact on patrons and staff have worked exceptionally hard to manage these disruptions to service without compromising the level of customer service we provide.

We anticipate an upgrade to the health club courtyard flooring in the coming weeks. These dates will be communicated as soon as possible.

8 July 2011

Over the last week we have seen significant work completed on the outdoor interactive water playground area.

  • Large excavation and levelling of the area
  • Preparation for a retaining wall and concrete pad

The extension of the health club area and group fitness studio continues, with preparation for the concrete pad underway.

The upgrade timeline remains on track, and staff and contractors are working hard to ensure minimal disruption to services.

1 July 2011

Welcome to the first installment of the Melville Aquatic Fitness Centre (MAFC) Upgrade Blog.

Here you will find weekly updates as to how the upgrade is progressing, as well as photos from the construction site.

Since we handed the keys to Badge Construction on 27 April, we have seen:

  • The walls to the old group fitness studio (new health club) and meeting rooms have been pulled down
  • Levelling work to the extension area
  • Demolition of the reception area and the creation of a temporary entrance and reception area
  • Works beginning to the outdoor interactive water playground next to the leisure pool
  • Creation of a temporary RPM studio alongside the 50m pool
  • Increased the number of Group Fitness and Wellness classes at Melville Recreation Centre (MRC) to cater for the temporary group fitness shutdown at MAFC
  • The building of an Aqualite (marine grade timber), non slip ramp so that all patrons can enter the pool area from the main reception
