Young artists come together to showcase their work as a part of YAC It Up Alternatives for 2009. Created by young people for everyone, the artworks featured are a culmination of a series of workshops with local artists Dan Duggan and Minaxi May.
Illuminate Youth Art Exhibition – What’s It All About Then?
In 2008 YAC It Up celebrated its 10th Birthday after blasting the ears of thousands of young people from all over W.A. with the sounds of some of the countries biggest bands. In 2009 the Melville YAC decided it was time for a breather while a major youth research project, RESET was undertaken to find out what it really was young people wanted and needed in their community.
So instead of YAC It Up 2009, a range of alternative events were planned. One of these being the Illuminate Youth Art Exhibition.
Illuminate was a project the YAC really wanted to get behind as they were aware there were so many great young Artists out there that weren’t getting the opportunities or encouragement to develop or get their stuff seen.
Illuminate started as a series of workshops over 8 weeks where a group of young and talented people worked with professional Artists Dan Duggan and Minaxi May to create the pieces you see here – fresh, innovative and unique.
Through Illuminate the City of Melville, the YAC and the Coordinating Artists have an opportunity to acknowledge the talent, creativity and commitment young people have which often goes unseen or is misrepresented.
The young Artists involved in Illuminate have been amazing, blowing away Dan and Minaxi by showing a high level of maturity and passion for their art. We would like to thank them for their contribution and making this such a great YAC It Up Alternative!
The Illuminate Youth Art Exhibition will be officially launched by members of the Melville YAC on Thursday, 23 April 2009 at 6.00pm
Exhibition runs from Friday 24 April to Sunday 24 May 2009

Heathcote Musuem & Gallery is open Tuesday to Friday 10am to 3pm, Weekends 11am to 3pm and is located at the Heathcote Cultural Centre, Duncraig Road, Applecross.
