Mental Health Week - Living Library Program

The City of Melville is proudly supporting Mental Health Week's Living Library program. Mental Health week runs from the 5 to the 11 October 2008 and raises community awareness about mental helath issues. During Mental Health Week you will be offered the opportunity to gain a better understanding about mental health and illness by talking to people about their experiences through the Living Library Program.

A living library works like a normal library, except the "book" is a person who shares their experiences and stories, and gives the borrowers a chance to ask questions.

Mental Health Week will feature books from diverse backgrounds with consumer, carer and health professional perspectives.

This is a great opportunity for the community to gain a better understanding about mental health and mental illness. It makes it harder to maintain misconceptions and stereotypes when a positive experience has been shared.

In addition, health professionals will be books who assist in promoting and recruiting mental health workers.

The Living Library will be running in the following locations:

Fremantle Library

Midland Library

State Library and the Gosnells Learning Centre
