Once again, the City of Melville will present the Living Library – Don’t judge a book by its cover after the success of the inaugural one in November last year.

The Living Library twists the concept of a traditional library, where you borrow a person, not a book. This innovative concept gives people form different walks of life the opportunity to share their life experiences with ‘readers’ who want to know more about the lives of others.

The Living Library is a community-based initiative that aims to bring people together through one-to-one conversation and interaction and thereby encourage understanding, challenge negative stereotypes and reduce prejudice.

If you are ready to face your own prejudices and stereotypical judgments and ‘meet’ your stereotype’ personally, you should become a reader of the Living Library where books can speak!

The program will run during Harmony Week from Monday, 17 March to Thursday 20 March 2008 in various libraries in Melville (Refer to table bellow).

The City of Stirling will be also running the Living Library during Harmony Week. Please refer to this link

Sessions will be available for ‘readers’ to meet ‘living books’ on one to one informal conversation for a period of 30 minutes. For further information on times and living books availability, please contact 9364 0666 or email: mzentner@melville.wa.gov.au
