Concept Plan Summary - Restoration Zones

The table below shows summarised proposed works in specific zones, including artists impressions of the area after restoration.

 Zone 1    

 Restoration to include bank stabilisation works:

  • Enhance current rock rip-rap to reduce wave impacts and slumping on the embankment;
  • Removal of weeds;
  • Minor bank regrading;
  • Installation of vegetated palisades in over steep section of embankment;
  • Jute matting of exposed soils;
  • Dense planting of embankment and top of embankment
  • Planting to blend with adjacent bush forever area.

Restoration works intended to provide enhancement and continuity accross the site by:

  • Dense planting with native sedges and scattered low;
  • Sporobolus virginicus (Marine couch) to be used to integrate turf and beach area on north east corner, closest to the jetty;
  • Install temporary fencing around new plantings until they are fully established;
  • Maintain existing areas of amenity grass;
  • Formalise access by providing wider, clear paths to sand bars.

 Zone 2B

 Intensive restoration to retain existing Casuarina obesa includes:

  • Brushmattressing in the small beach between the trees;
  • Rock rip-rap as toe protection for the exposed root material;
  • Dense planting within the brushmattressing and the rock rip-rap;
  • Planting of native shrubs (up to 600 mm high) up to the current grass line;
  • Small platforms to provide access to water and sitting area under shade trees.

 Zone 2C

 Restoration works:

  • Regrade bank to reduce slope and reduce resulting erosion from wave energy;
  • Turf to be reinstated, allowing area for temporary stage;
  • Reprofilling of the bank will improve passive surveillance and connection between higher grassed areas and the beach;
  • Araucaria heterophyila (Japanese Pepper) trees to be removed as part of a staged tree removal process. Native trees, providing good shade coverage, to be reinstated.

 Zone 2D

 

 Restoration works

 Minor regrading to integrate with Zone 2C. Turf reinstatement where required.

 Zone 3A

 

 Restoration works and public access works:

  • Create small vegetated nodes to enhance existing vegetation and create coves.
  • Minor regrading of bank between nodes to improve access.
  • Planting of advanced native trees within grassed area to increase density and shade coverage.

 Zone 3B

 Restoration and public access work:

  • Extend rock rip-rap to west and intergrate better with boat ramp.
  • Opportunistic planting within rock rip-rap to create a softer edge.
  • Boardwalk along carpark edge to provide safe, defined access along top of rock rip-rap.

 Zone 4A

 Restoration and public assess works:

  • Removal of all woody weeds, replaced with advanced trees in stages;
  • Minor regrading or bank to create a gentler slope to the beach;
  • Brushmattressing to area of regrading and dense planting of native vegetation;
  • Reinstatement of rock rip-rap alongside boat ramp;
  • Opportunistic planting within rock rip-rap;
  • Boardwalk to replace existing concrete steps and ramp;
  • Small extension of public footpath.

 Zone 4B

 

 Area of revegetation requires:

  • Removal of all woody weeds;
  • Staged removal of selected trees, replaced with advanced native trees;
  • Planting of native shrub, sedge and rush species;
  • Revegetation of current grassed plain between beach and current vegitation.
