If you are interested, please contact the Environmental Education Officer (details below) to arrange a meeting.
What do we need help to do?... Well, I'm glad you asked!
Those pretty little WELCOME SWALLOWS are making a mess of our SUSTAINBLE BUILDING. We don't want them to leave because they are friendly native birds, but they LOVE to build their mud-nests in the corners of our nice cool walls and they cover the windows and decking below with unwanted mess! We should clean up after them, I think, so they we don't have to ask them to leave!
There are some naughty people who forget to put their rubbish in the bins and it is cluttering up Piney Lakes Reserve. It would be nice if they had some help to get the rubbish in the bins! We can even go one step better, and sort out the rubbish into RECYCLABLE and COMPOSTABLE, and then we might even have some food to feed to the worms at the Education Centre!
Unwelcome weeds! They are taking over the Reserve - oh no! Help us get rid of them so that our lovely NATIVE PLANTS can survive and improve the health of our REMNANT BUSHLAND and WETLAND.
We have lots of seedlings that need to have some mulch spread around them. This helps them to retain water for longer as it stops the evaporation occurring. This is a hard job so the more hands, the easier it is.
The plants around our building need help too! Because we practice SUSTAINABLE LIVING at Piney Lakes Environmental Education Centre, we need some help to water them as we must do it with hoses and buckets - no sprinklers!
Children ages 13-16 years will need written parental consent. Upon first outing, a parent or guardian will be required to fill out City of Melville volunteer agreement forms on behalf of the minor.
Are you a Scout leader? Do you lead another club or group for children and teenagers aged 6-16? If so, why not consider a service project at Piney Lakes Environmental Education Centre. We would love to have your help too!
