Bushland Weed Control

Herbicide control is about to commence in the City of Melville. This is to control annual and perennial weeds in the City's Bushland Reserves.

City staff, with the assistance of qualified bushland contractors, will target grass weeds such as Perennial Veldt Grass using a grass specific herbicide named "Targa."  Weed control will also target bulbous and spring growing weeds using herbicides such as Round Up(R) Biactive and Metsulfuron.  This will assist with improving the overall health of the City's natural areas as well as reducing the potential fire fuel loads created by grasses and introduced species.

Appropriate signage will be displayed on vehicles and in other strategic locations while works are occurring.  Staff and contractors will be using current Best Management Practices to avoid any off-target damage.  The inclusion of dyes with herbicides will assist in identifying areas that have been treated.

For information on spraying times and locations or operational issues, please contact the Environmental Maintenance Supervisor during office hours.
