Reduce Waste and Recycle

Waste costs you when you buy it and then throw it away. You pay twice for waste! Learn how to reduce your costs by reducing your waste.

Waste is anything that we no longer want or need. For example, you really didn't want all the packaging that the product came in but rather the product itself. The packaging therefore is waste if you have no useful purpose for it.

The City of Melville offers its residents a comprehensive waste service, including a two bin system (yellow-topped recycling bin and waste composting bin), hard waste verge collection and green waste verge collection. There are also battery recycling bins, mobilemuster recycling bins and periodic household hazardous waste drop-off days available at designated locations. To find out more visit waste services.

To understand a bit more about where our products come from and also a general overview of the global attitude to waste check out The Story of Stuff.

So how do we stamp out waste - we take at look at what we buy, why we buy it and incorporate the 3 Rs into our everyday consumption decisions.

REDUCE
