Ecological Sustainability at the City of Melville
Ecological sustainability is about achieving economic, social and cultural growth without irreversibly exhausting the ecological systems supporting that growth.
A sustainable city seeks to improve liveability and ensure that the economy meets human needs while using resources efficiently. The intent of this is to maintain ecological integrity, the stock of natural capital and decrease the generation of waste and pollution.
The City of Melville has established strong ecological foundations, demonstrating leadership and innovation concerning environmental issues. However, an intensification of efforts is now necessary to make further progress towards achieving a sustainable city. The City of Melville will continue to drive the sustainability agenda to safeguard the welfare of future generations both in our local community and the global community.
