Biodiversity is the number and variation of living organisms within a given area. The higher the degree of biodiversity, the healthier the ecosystem.
The South West of Australia is a biodiversity hotspot with many unique species. The City of Melville is lucky to have over 500 species of plants and over 200 species of animals living here, many of which are classed as regionally or nationally significant.
The City of Melville aims to restore biodiversity to our natural areas, through revegetation of our bushland, encouraging native verges and gardens and minimising those processes that threaten our biodiversity.
