About the YAC Music Committee.
The YAC Music Committee is a project group for the City of Melville Youth Advisory Council (YAC). They formed to assist young musicians and bands access opportunities to perform at and run music events through The Vault.
Membership is open to any young person aged 12 -25 who lives, works, goes to school or university in the City of Melville, or has some kind of connection to the City.
About supported events.
Supported events are run by bands with support from the YAC Music Committee. They are designed to give young performers the opportunity to gain experience managing their own events.
The YAC Music committee can assist with venue hire, security, PA and lighting, etc. They’re also available to work through the ideas you have for your show and offer advice.
If you haven’t run a show before, or you’re looking to get more experience running music events, then running a supported event through the YAC Music Committee is probably a good option for you.
About the booking process:
We very rarely book individual bands, most of our bookings come to us as a full line-up of at least three bands. The reason for this is that we find that gigs organised by a group of people who have some connection work better, and it demonstrates to us that you are part of a musical community or network.
If you don’t know any other bands we might be able to help you get in touch with like minded groups to help you put on a show.
Once we have an idea of the kind of night you want to put on we will add you to our database of potential gigs, and we can look for a spot for you. If we think a certain date might suit you, we will contact you and offer you a show. Generally this a fairly quick process.
It’s normally quite useful to come down to The Vault and talk to the YAC Music Committee about your event.
Don’t worry if you are just starting out or don’t have experience running shows. The YAC Music Committee is here to support you through the process.
