PHAZE
PHAZE is the City of Melville's youth art project, which runs urban art sessions from Leeming Skate Park and Melville Skate Park nine months of the year.
The beginning of PHAZE
In May 2007, a group of young people approached the City of Melville with a petition of 250 signatures asking for an identified place for creating works of art. The result was PHAZE - an youth art project running out of the Melville and Leeming skate parks giving young people the freedom to paint their own designs. The project has given participants aged 12 to 24 years the chance to express themselves and develop their skills, as well as give them the opportunity to work with urban artist Dan Duggan. PHAZE is perfect for any young person - from the most seasoned and experienced artist to anyone who just wants to have a go.
PHAZE runs nine urban art sessions a year, with three months off during winter. The City of Melville provides all materials free of cost as well as sunscreen, water and lunch - all that participants need to do is register before hand and have a rough idea of what they want to paint on the day. Local residents are also encouraged to come down and watch the team at work.
PHAZE 2010/11
The first PHAZE session this year will be in September and the project will run through until May 2011. The City of Melville will also be running two themed sessions, where young people with a bit of experience can look at improving their skills. Remember that it is essential to register.
