The Mayor’s Valued Citizen Awards recognises community members that have made a significant contribution to the Melville community over an extended period of time.
The Mayor’s Valued Citizen Awards recognises community members that have made a significant contribution to the Melville community over an extended period of time.
The award was established in 2011 by Mayor Russell Aubrey as a way of celebrating the 10th anniversary of the International Year of the Volunteer. After an over-whelming response the Mayor decided the awards will be an annual event.
To be eligible to receive the award, a Mayor’s Valued Citizen must:
- either live in the City of Melville, or be involved with a not-for-profit organisation in the City of Melville
- have made a valuable contribution to the community for 10 years or more with the one organisation
- can not be in a paid role at their organisation at anytime during the 10 year period
Who can nominate:
- Nominations must be received by the President or Volunteer Manager of the organisation
- Community member’s are encouraged to inform the President or Volunteer Manager of the award and refer possible candidates for nomination
Nominations are open all year and the nominees who meet all the eligibility criteria will be invited to attend an event hosted by the Mayor to receive special recognition. This event is usually held in November each year.
