Safer Melville

Safer Melville was officially launched on the 6 August 2009 as part of the Safer Melville 2008 - 2012 Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan. This plan was created based on feedback from City of Melville residents who identified Community Safety as a priority and its ultimate goal to “Ensure citizens feel safe and secure in the City of Melville.

Achievement of this goal includes multiple iniatives including the Community Safety Service, Memorandum Of Understanding with WA Police, funding of early intervention and education programs like Constable Care as well as the re-establishment of the Safer Melville Advisory Committee. Additionally, we hold regular education and information sessions for parents and teenagers on issues such as cyber bullying, party safe and graffiti.

In June 2005 the City of Melville signed a partnership agreement with the Office of Crime Prevention and adopted its position on community safety and crime prevention.  Primary responsibility for policing, community safety and crime prevention lies with State Government agencies such as the police.  In 2010 The City of Melville and Police signed a Memorandum of Understanding which formalizes our relationship and provides opportunities to combine resources to achieve our Safer Melville goal.

Now the 2005 – 2008 plan has successfully been implemented and the 2008 – 2012 plan is drawing to it’s end it is time to re-focus on our vision for the next 4 years and for that we need the assistance of it’s stakeholders… you, the residents.

To ensure the 2012 – 2016 Community Safety and Crime Prevention Plan is relevant and builds even further on past successes we plan to engage our community in the second half of 2012.  So think about what safety means to you and watch this space for instructions on how you can contribute to achieving our goal of a Safer Melville.
