Report from Palmyra Police Station 5 February 2010

In the last edition of eNews, Acting Senior Sergeant Spencer made mention of an increase in the number of burglaries within the Palmyra Police sub district. Sadly the trend continued during the recent school holiday but we also had some successes with regard to apprehending offenders.

Success stories

Intelligence received from several sources suggested a few ‘teams’ of offenders were moving through our area conducting burglaries. Last week, during patrols of the foreshore, Palmyra Police Officers stopped a vehicle and police apprehended two adults and a juvenile in possession of a quantity of stolen property. They were charged with 11 counts of Stealing, four of Criminal Damage, Stealing a Motor Vehicle and various traffic offences.

Working in partnership

Palmyra Police work very closely with the Fremantle Detectives Burglary Team and through the sharing of intelligence and resources, are able to actively target known offenders and in many cases, successfully prosecute them for a variety of offences.  Many of you may not be aware that both Palmyra and Murdoch Police work closely with the City of Melville and have established a strong partnership in the battle against crime in the City of Melville. Frontline Police Officers will quite often call on the City of Melville Community Safety Service (CSS) to assist with patrols, and CSS now have the ability to directly contact our Incident Management Unit to report unlawful or suspicious behaviour. This greatly improves the time it takes for police to attend an incident.

Did you know?

TRAFFIC CRASHES – The old fashioned way of attending the police station to report a crash by filling out a form is being phased out. Minor crashes should now be reported ‘on line’ at www.crashreport.com.au . If you don’t have internet access at home, you are requested to try a friend or family member or even a public access computer at the library.

FIREARM LICENSES – Police stations no longer handle firearm applications. These can be applied for at Australia Post Offices.

POLICE CLEARANCE – These too are now handled by Australia Post.

The Palmyra Police Station is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.00pm but our officers patrol this area 24 hours a day 7 days a week.   Please remember that if you need police assistance contact 131 444, or if you have information regarding any criminal activity contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 where your identity can remain confidential. Save 000 for life threatening emergencies only.
