Report from Palmyra Police Station 19 February 2010

“For the times they are a changing” – even more so in the world of policing and the way we do business. This is also true for the way you, the public, can report matters or request police attendance.

What happens when I call 131 444?

It is important that you remember that 131 444 is your first point of contact with police. By ringing this number you will be connected to the Police Assistance Centre (PAC) in Midland. This facility is manned 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and their sole purpose is to despatch vehicles to tasks as quickly and efficiently as possible, as well as to take reports over the phone.

In some instances there is no need for police to attend your home, for example if you are simply reporting the loss of property. Staff at the PAC can take the details over the phone and load a lost property report onto the system.

If police are required to attend, for example you report a burglary or a disturbance, PAC will put all the information onto our tasking computer and the first available police vehicle will be despatched. All tasks are prioritised, from priority 1 which is extremely urgent, to priority 4 which is not so urgent.

When do I need to attend a police station?

There are very few instances where you will need to attend a police station these days. To enable more police officers to be on the road rather than confined to the station, many of the services that used to be provided by police have been out-sourced to other suitable organisations like Australia Post, or been made available electronically on the police website at www.police.wa.gov.au.

The Palmyra Police Station is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.00pm but our officers patrol this area 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Please remember that if you need police assistance contact 131 444, or if you have information regarding any criminal activity contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 where your identity can remain confidential. Save 000 for life threatening emergencies only.
