Report from Murdoch Police Station 25 November 2010

Operation Unification - a dedicated campaign to rid the suburbs of illicit drugs was launched on the 8th November. The operation resulted in some major seizures of drugs including cannabis, heroin and cocaine, as well as millions of dollars worth of assets and the location of $330,000 of cash.

Members of the public have continued to support this operation by reporting information on the importation, manufacturing or distribution of illicit drugs to Crime Stoppers.  Another initiative targeting drugs was the national ‘Say SoMETHing’ day on Friday the 19th November where 340 calls were received from the public on the day.

Clearly, the public have had a gutful of the insidious schemes by drug distribution syndicates.  Lives are being lost and destroyed in the pursuit of greed by the big players in the drug market.  This is where Crime Stoppers provides a conduit for the public to anonymously report such activity.  Once all this intelligence is collated and analysed, progressive enforcement through the execution of search warrants under the Misuse of Drugs Act is pursued by State and Federal Agencies.

At Murdoch Police our people are continually seizing quantities of cannabis, smoking implements and amphetamines from vehicle stops, and search warrants.  These charges generally include cultivation of prohibited drugs and possession of smoking implements and prohibited drugs.

One thing on the rise is the escalation of extreme levels of violence by drug-affected offenders towards police in hostile situations, particularly those affected by the white crystal powder who take on alter egos.  No wonder the coppers have had a gutful dealing with volatile situations exacerbated by alcohol and drugs - wild parties, domestic violence, road rage and drink driving just to name a few.

This is the time when young people need to consider carefully the company they keep when socializing and mixing with their friends.  With school / university holidays upon us, spare time and boredom will always cause some kids to experiment and dabble in the stuff, so a strong resolve and keeping a close circle of friends can hopefully provide some buffer to resist the temptations.

The indulgence of illicit drugs ultimately takes its toll on the individual, their families and their relationships.  The ripple effect of family breakdowns, health and financial crises, and absenteeism are sadly the signs and symptoms of lost values, respect and standards of a community.

Say no to drugs!
