Report from Murdoch Police Station 11 June 2010
Opportunistic burglaries appear to be the common thread of most home break-ins – in part caused by householders failing to secure their premises.
Unlocked, or in some cases, open doors have provided a quick means of entry and exit points for burglars intent on stealing your possessions and leaving an extensive damage bill. The trauma of discovering your home ransacked can be an emotionally devastating experience, so any preventative measures to ensure the minimum standards of home security are maintained would reduce the likelihood of such occurrences.
Locks and alarms are both important, and serve different purposes. Whilst an alarm system will alert you if an offender has tried to enter your house, your door and windows help keep them out. Install good quality locks to all doors and windows and check locks are working correctly. Remember – secure locks at all times, even when you are at home.
The Murdoch Police Station is open Monday to Friday from 8.00am to 4.00pm but our officers patrol this area 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Please remember that if you need police assistance contact 131 444, or if you have information regarding any criminal activity contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 where your identity can remain confidential. Save 000 for life threatening emergencies only.
