I don’t have a lot of time to volunteer, what can I do to be involved in NHW?

There are four voluntary activity levels in NHW; volunteer, street representative, area coordinator and suburb manager.

You don’t however have to sign up to NHW or spend hours of your time to make a contribution.  Here are some simple things you can do to contribute to a safer community:

  • Get a NHW bin sticker and display it on your bin
  • Knock on your neighbours door and say hi so you can get to know them
  • Look out for and report suspicious behaviour to police on 131 444
  • Mark or engrave your property – this makes it easier to identify and recover, and harder for burglars to resell.
  • Attend your local NHW event and get to know your community
  • Find out how you can participate in Burglar Beware as part of your daily walks by speaking to your suburb manager
  • Sign up to eNews (the City’s electronic newsletter) by clicking here to receive information from the City of Melville, including safety and crime prevention tips and reports from your local police station.
