How does NHW promote safety in my community?
Neighbourhood Watch promotes safety in the community.
- NHW promotes safety by creating strengthened communities and an improved perception of safety through community connectedness, getting to know your neighbours and community understanding of crime prevention strategies.
- NHW contributes to a reduction in preventable crime by educating the community and providing them with practical advice and strategies to make their lives safer.
- NHW volunteers are extra eyes and ears for the police which means there is more information and intelligence passed onto them which can assist in the apprehension of offenders.
- NHW creates a safer community through provision of the highly visible and recognizable NHW window and bin stickers and signage displayed throughout the community.
- NHW volunteers regularly hold information stalls at local events and centres to distribute information and resources based on current crime trends and activities.
- NHW collaborates with the City of Melville Community Safety Service (CSS) to “Cocoon” areas affected by burglaries by providing burglar beware information to surrounding homes to minimise further incidences.
