Reconciliation Action Plan
The City of Melville is developing a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) to continue its commitment to building positive relationships between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people.
Reconciliation is about building better relationships between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and the wider Australian community for the benefit of all Australians.
The City of Melville has already had some achievements in reconciliation through:
- Development an Aboriginal History Brochure
- Developing an Aboriginal Women's trail
- Public and community art projects
- Establishment of an Aboriginal Engagement Officer Position
- Continuing to celebrate and host NAIDOC events and Reconciliation Week
- Supporting community groups Walyalup and Djidi Djidi
The RAP will continue to work toward reconcilation by developing good relationships based on mutual understanding and collaboration; respecting the special contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples within Australia; and working together to ensure Aboriginal children have the same life opportunities as other children in this prosperous country.
