Meals on Wheels in the City of Melville
Meals on Wheels is a service for residents of the City of Melville who are unable to prepare their own meals.
Anyone can make a referral, the person themselves, relatives, hospitals, doctors or even a caring friend. All meal recipients are assessed for eligibility by the Meal Service Coordinator using the Home and Community Care (HACC) criteria. Visit the Seniors page to find out more about HACC.
A nutritionally balanced hot three course meal is delivered by volunteers Monday to Friday and frozen meals are available if required for weekends and public holidays.
Meals cost $6.00 per person per day. Special dietary requirements are catered for.
Want to Volunteer?
Both services operate with two suitably qualified paid staff and a very large volunteer contingent. Some volunteers assist in the kitchens helping with meal preparation and service while others deliver the meals.
All volunteers receive lunch and drivers using their own vehicles get a petrol subsidy. If you would like to become a Meals on Wheels Volunteer, please visit the City of Melville's Volunteer Resource Centre page.
Need to Receive Meals?
To apply for receiving meals or assisting as a volunteer you can apply direct to the services or call or email the Meal Service Coordinator on 9364 0282 or email maureen.lima-brough@melville.wa.gov.au
