2011 Community Partnership Funding Level One Recipients
Find out which local community groups received City of Melville Level One Community Partnership Funding for 2011.
Congratulations to the following 2011 Level One recipients:
St Benedict’s Primary School Parents & Friends Assoc
Project: Friends Program
Amount of fund requested: $10,000
Project duration: 12 months
Implement the Friends Program that offers skills to build resilient, empathetic and respectful citizens. It the first year, the program will be run for 120 lower primary school students with flow on effect to the adult/parent community. The Friends Program is written in Australia for Australian children and is recognised by the World Health Organisation as best practise for effective treatment and prevention of anxiety and depression. The project will also have a ripple effect, including staff in training, parent & community information workshops. Plans have been made to showcase the program for the wider community.
The Australian Youth Climate Coalition
Project: Power Shift Youth Summit
Amount of fund requested: $7,000
Project duration: 12 months
The AYCC is the largest youth initiative on climate change in the world with over 58,000 members. The event has taken place in 2009 and 2010 in other states. This will be the first time Perth has hosted the summit. The 2011 summit will take place at Murdoch University over three days. The format will incorporate high profile speakers, skill-building, project management & climate change science workshops, green careers fair, and music acts. The event will target youth state-wide and anticipates attracting 250 attendees.
Rotary Club of Canning Bridge
Project: Monthly Art Markets
Amount of fund requested: $9,970
Project duration: 6 months
The proposal is to organise and run monthly Sunday markets on Kishorn Road in the Canning Bridge Precinct which will host only Australian made arts and crafts along with street theatre. This location is accessible, within walking distance on train and bus stops. Funding will support the first four months of operation, with the organisation aiming to run a sustainable market after this time. The markets will help build community, provide a local, all-ages event for residents, a tourist attraction, as well as helping to build creative capital by supporting local artisans.
