Cultural Vitality Plan

The Cultural Vitality Plan is here!
The Cultural Vitality Plan was developed after extensive consultation with the community in 2010 via an online forum, photovoice project, interviews with arts and cultural organisations and groups, and a community art project involving four primary schools across the City. Internal consultation also took place during 2011 to ensure maximum commitment across the organisation.
The result is a Plan that identifies seven goals for enhancing and supporting cultural vitality in the City. A range of strategies and actions have been identified by different departments across the organisation to achieve these goals. The Cultural Vitality Plan is designed to be implemented over three years, from July 2011 - July 2014. Work has already begun!
Whilst the Plan was devised to give Council strategic direction, a public version is available at Melville Libraries, Community Centres, the Civic Centre and online here.
Thank you to all the people who participated in the consultation process. Your input has meant that we can better respond to community aspirations through our planning and delivery of events, activities and programs.

Networking for artists and cultural groups
Local artists and community organisations told us that they wanted more opportunities for communication, both with each other, and with the City. In response we've begun two networking initiatives.
- The Melville Arts and Creatives group on Facebook is an avenue for emerging and established artists, community cultural groups and creatives in Melville to network, promote and stay informed of current and future cultural development opportunities. The network introduced in January 2012 is continually growing.
- A monthly Arts eNewsletter was launched in July 2012. Sign up here to stay informed about events, opportunities, training, and to promote what you do.
