The LeisureFit Competition Swim is available at LeisureFit Booragoon in partnership with the South Shore Swimming Club.

This squad swimming program is structured to give the best possible training, swim facilities and coaches for all members interested in competition swimming.

We are committed to providing a sustainable program for competitive swimmers which forms part of the overall swimming continuum suite of programs at the facility, form; infants, Learn to Swim, Youth, Transition, Fitness, Competition Program, Endurance and Masters.

Coaching Team

Head Coach - Chris Twomey

Chris joins us a Silver Accredited Coach and has experience both in Australia and Overseas as a Swim Coach and Development Coach.

Chris has recently completed his Master of Education (Sports Coaching) at the University of Sydney and received an award of Advance High Performance Coaching through ASCTA.

  • Multiple finalists at Australian Open Championships and Olympic trials

Coach - Shannon Doody

Shannon joins us as a Bronze Accredited Coach after being a swimmer for 17 years, ten of which was with the South Shore Swimming Club on which she currently sits on the committee member.

Shannon has experienced numerous trips to Broome and other country areas in Western Australia, and has travelled to Adelaide with the WA School Sports team to compete in the 2015 Pan Pacific School Games.

Coach – Craig Murray

Craig joins us as a Swimming Australia Teacher of Competitive Strokes. Craig is a Bronze accredited Coach and is in the process of acquiring the theory side of the Silver License.

Craig has been involved in the aquatic sports of swimming, water polo, surf lifesaving, open water and triathlons for many years and brings to our program a wealth of experience and knowledge, both  as a coach and a competitor – locally and abroad.

LeisureFit Competition Swim offers a range of squad options based on age, ability and training frequency, these are:

  • Swimmers aged 7 to 12
  • Have being introduced to competitive swimming whether it be club nights, school carnivals or Swimming WA meets
  • Member at the South Shore Swimming Club  for at least 6 months
  • Entry level must have passed stage 12 of Education Department Swimming or passed Transition Squad at LeisureFit's Learn to Swim Program or equivalent
  • This group focuses on drill/skill development in Freestyle, Breaststroke and Backstroke with an introduction to Butterfly. Education on starts, turns and finishes
  • Distance: 1000m-1500m per session
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard, 750ml water bottle

Sessions per week: 2


  • Tuesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Wednesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Thursday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Friday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Saturday 8.00am  to 9.00am

Cost: $105.60 per month



  • Swimmers aged 8-12
  • Have graduated from Bronze Squad and/or achieved a State qualifying time
  • A competitive member of South Shore Swimming Club competing at Swimming WA meets and attending club nights
  • This group focuses on drill/skill development in all 4 competitive strokes, including starts, turns and finishes. Use of the pace clock
  • Distance: 1500m-2500m per session
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard, pull buoy, 750ml water bottle

Sessions per week: 3

Session times:

  • Monday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Tuesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Wednesday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Thursday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Friday 4.00pm to 5.00pm
  • Saturday 8.00am to 9.00am

Cost: $126.70 per month



  • Swimmers aged 11-15
  • Have graduated from Silver Squad
  • To be a competitive member of South Shore Swimming Club competing at Swimming WA meets and club nights
  • Training focuses on continued development of drills/skills in all four competitive strokes, including starts, turns and finishes. Endurance in strokes commences. Use of heart rate monitors and pace clock
  • Equipment Required: Fins, kickboard, pull buoy, paddles, 750ml water bottle
  • Distance: 3000-4000m per session

Sessions per week: 4

Session times:

  • Monday 5.30am to 7.30am
  • Tuesday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Wednesday 5.30am to 7:30am
  • Thursday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Friday 5.30am - 7.30am
  • Saturday 6.00am to 8.00am

Cost: $157.85



  • Swimmers aged 12+ (typical age group 14 +)
  • Who have graduated from Gold Squad
  • To be a competitive member of South Shore Swimming Club attending club nights and Swimming WA meets/Open Water events
  • Swimmers train towards their National times
  • Distance: 4000m+ per session
  • Equipment Requirements: Fins, kickboard, pull buoy, paddles, snorkel, 750ml water bottle

Sessions per week: 6+

Session times:

  • Monday 5:30am to 7:30am
  • Monday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Tuesday 5:30am to 7:30am
  • Wednesday 5.00pm to 7.00pm
  • Thursday 5:30am to 7:30am
  • Friday 5:00pm to 7:00pm
  • Saturday 6.00am to 8.00am

Cost: $190.00 per month*

Performance Swimmers also have access to their own specified Strength and Conditioning sessions (see Coach for more details) as part of their program fees that are great complimentary sessions to their current pool sessions.

Health Lounge (spa / steam rooms / saunas) access is also included for those 16 years and above. Health Lounge Guidelines apply.

Booking an Assessment / Enrolments

Please contact coaching@southshoreswimming.com.au or call 0450 928 031 to arrange for your child to be assessed and placed in an appropriate squad.

Once to you have been offered a position, the following forms will be handed to you to return to front reception. All forms the necessary documentation (3 documents) need to be completed in FULL:

  • LeisureFit Competition Swim Program Application and Agreement Form (including Terms & Conditions)
  • LeisureFit Competition Swim Program – Session Request Form
  • LeisureFit Medical Form

Completed forms (three of) can then be taken to our Member Services Team at front reception for processing.

Frequently Asked Questions

1) When are the sessions available for each type of program?

Session times will be made available to eligible swimmers upon completion of a complimentary assessment with the Head Coach.

2) When does the direct debit happen?

The 14th day of each month, unless it falls on the weekend, then the next business day.

If the debit fails then you will be charged a $11.00 dishonour fee and you will be required to pay all owing monies before entry to the facility will be granted.

3) What does the package fee include?

The package fee is a $25.00 once off fee that must be paid upon sign up. The package fee includes an administration fee, a water bottle & lanyard and an initial consultation for the Health Club for eligible athletes.

A package fee will need to be paid again if a member cancels and re-joins after more than 30 days.

4) What do I do if I want to upgrade / downgrade my program?

  1. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure they are on the correct level of payment for the sessions and program they participate in.  If they are found to be on the incorrect level they will be required to pay the appropriate level and pay any difference owing.
  2. Any change of level must be approved by the Squad Coach and a completed and signed Change of Level Form must be presented upon the change request.
  3. If an applicant is required to change program level after the commencement of this contract they are required to complete a new Program Application and Agreement Form stating the change.  If they are within their initial term they will not be charged the cancellation fee. 

5) What do I pay if my child is transitioning to a higher level squad?

If you child is transitioning from one level to another, you will be charged at the lower rate until the child has FULLY transitioned to the higher level squad.

6) What do I do if I want to cancel?

Cancellation is the same as a normal three (3) month Direct Debit Membership. Please see below for clarity on those terms.

  1. Three (3) month Payment Plan memberships are for a minimum three month period, cancellation within this period will be subject to a $100.00 cancellation fee as per the City of Melville gazetted Fees and Charges for Competition Swim Program ONLY. Cancellation of this membership outside of the minimum term will not be subject to this cancellation fee.
  2. All members wishing to cancel are required to submit a Cancellation Form either in person or online.
  3. Cancellations require 30 days written notice.  Any fees due in this 30 day notice period will be charged as per normal, ie. one full debit. 
  4. This is an ongoing membership agreement.  The agreement will continue until either you or the supplier terminates it in the way described in the agreement.  Automatic direct debit membership fees will continue to be debited from your credit card or account until you cancel the arrangement with the fitness centre.

7) Can I place my LeisureFit Competition Swim Program on a timehold?

Timeholds are as per LeisureFit Direct Debit three (3) month membership conditions. For more information see points below.

  1. Members can activate a timehold for their memberships, for one or more periods, for a minimum of one (1) and a maximum of twelve (12) weeks, each financial year. This will attract an administration fee of $15.00 in each instances.
  2. Direct Debit Members wishing to put their Membership on timehold will have the $15.00 administration fee debited in their next direct debit payment.
  3. Membership fees will not be charged during the period of timehold.
  4. A medical absence can be granted by completing a Membership Timehold form and providing supporting medical documents. Administration fees do not apply to a medical timehold.
  5. Timeholds are available by completing a Membership Timehold Form online or in centre. Timeholds will NOT be granted retrospectively.

8) My LeisureFit Competition Swim Program package includes use of the Health Club, when can I go to use the facilities

Only the “Performance” swimmers that are 13+ in age have access to the Health Club at designated times AFTER they have had a Program Consultation with a LeisureFit Personal Trainer.
