Eat Healthy Foods
Tips to help improve your diet.
Watch your portion size – Use a smaller plate, fill 1/2 veg, 1/4 protein (e.g. meat, fish, chicken, legumes), 1/4 cereals and grains (e.g. rice, pasta, bread).
Go for 2 fruit and 5 veg – they help protect us against a number of diseases and maintain a healthy weight.
Cut back on sugar – Too much sugar leads to weight gain and tooth decay.
Choose healthy snacks – Have a drink of water first. If you really need a snack, have a healthy alternative e.g. fresh fruit vegie sticks and hummus, plain unsalted nuts or slice of fruit toast.
Choose healthy fats – Bodies need fat to function normally. Unsaturated fats are healthiest, as they lower cholesterol and provide essential fatty acids that the body can’t make itself.
Avoid sugary drinks – Drinks add to your kilojoule intake. Tap water is best! Buy a water bottle, fill it and take it everywhere you go. Add fresh lime, lemon or ginger to spice it up!
