Local Government Elections FAQ

Voting in local government elections is voluntary. Anyone who is enrolled to vote in Western Australia on a State or Commonwealth electoral roll is allowed to vote, as are any Australian citizens who own or occupy land in their particular locality.

Questions and Answers

Who can vote?

  • Those who are correctly enrolled on a State or Commonwealth electoral roll
  • A resident or a non-resident owner of rateable property or land within the City of Melville.

Am I eligible to enrol?

  • You must be 18 years of age or older
  • You must be an Australian Citizen.

What if I am already enrolled on the State Electoral Roll?

  • You do not need to enrol on the Local Government roll as you will automatically be enrolled from the State Commonwealth Roll.

What happens if my address details change?

  • Please contact the City of Melville so that our records can be amended accordingly
  • For State or Federal Roll, complete an ‘Electoral Enrolment Form’ which can be obtained from the City of Melville.

What if I own more than one (1) property within the same ward?

  • You are only able to vote once in each ward. Enrolment Eligibility Forms are posted to each
    new eligible property owner, or contact the City of Melville for an Enrolment Eligibility Form (see below).

What if I own property in several wards?

  • You are able to vote in each ward and therefore an Enrolment Eligibility Form should be completed for each ward, but only one vote can be cast for the position of Mayor.

How do I obtain an Enrolment Eligibility Form?

  • Eligibility Enrolment Forms are available from the City of Melville by contacting the Property Officer on 08 9364 0238 or by downloading the attachment on this webpage.
  • Which suburbs are included within the City of Melville?
  • University Ward: Kardinya, Murdoch, Winthrop
  • Palmyra/Melville/Willagee Ward: Palmyra, Melville, Willagee
  • Bicton/Attadale Ward: Bicton, Attadale, Alfred Cove
  • Bull Creek/Leeming Ward: Bull Creek, Leeming
  • Applecross/Mt. Pleasant Ward: Applecross, Mt. Pleasant (north of Coomoora Road), parts of Ardross
  • City Ward: Myaree, Brentwood, Booragoon, Bateman, Mt. Pleasant (south of Coomoora Road), parts of Ardross
