2008 Awards

Awards received during 2008 were in the areas of safety and security, health, road safety and climate change, among others.

Safety and Security – The City of Melville’s Community Safety and Security (CSS) Service was awarded the Office of Crime Prevention’s quarterly Eyes on the Street Award in September 2008 for its exceptional efforts in taking part in the intelligence-gathering program.

Health/Road Safety – For its health promotion DVD ‘6’ (six mates, six stories), the City was the metropolitan winner of the 2008 WA Local Government Road Safety Award in the Safe Road User Behaviour category, as well as being a finalist in the National Drug and Alcohol Awards (announced in June 2008).

Climate Change – In August, the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI) presented the City with an award for completing the planning and review component of Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Plus program, which reaffirms the City’s support to reducing emissions. The organisation had previously completed all five milestones of the initial CCP Australia program.
