Hazardous Materials
Health Services provides advice on handling and disposal of hazardous materials such as asbestos.
Asbestos is a mineral fiber that was commonly used in a variety of building construction materials.
Left undisturbed in buildings, asbestos cement (AC) building products do not present a threat to health, however, if inhaled by humans, asbestos fibres can cause asbestosis, lung cancer and mesothelioma, a disease, which is invariably fatal.
The City of Melville can organise the safe removal of asbestos. For further information contact the City of Melville Health Service on (08) 9364 0659.
