Community Wellbeing Survey 2011

Almost 90 per cent of City of Melville residents who responded in the 2011 Community Wellbeing Survey feel safe in their local community, with perceptions of safety improving significantly in the past two years.

In April, the City of Melville conducted a Community Wellbeing Survey to monitor a range of factors that impact the quality of life for local residents.

The study evaluated three key areas which are determinants of Wellbeing and Healthy individuals and communities:

  • Social and cultural factors (such as health, safety, access to services, and sense of

community)

  • Economic factors (such as education, employment and housing)
  • Environmental factors (relating to the natural and built environment)

This survey updated the information gathered from the original survey conducted two years ago, allowing the City of Melville to track progress in the above categories.

The study was conducted by CATALYSE, an independent research company, in partnership with Edith Cowan University’s Survey Research Centre.

During the month of April, a random sample of households were contacted by phone and invited to participate in a telephone survey.

The City completed more than 400 interviews with a representative sample of residents. Sample quotas are being set by age, gender and location so that we get a good cross section of views across the community.

Results are being considered by Council and will assist Elected Members, the Executive Team and Organisational Managers to assess how the City of Melville is performing against its targets.
