Commemorating the Achievement. Continuing the Journey.
On Saturday, 3 May 2008, Melville celebrated its 40th anniversary as a City.
Melville was declared a City in 1968 following the opening of the Civic Centre, in Almondbury Road, Booragoon.
Since then, the physical and social landscape of the municipality has changed dramatically. Our population has doubled and our residents now have many opportunities to participate in activities, programs and events through a signifi cant investment in community services.
Our City’s 40th anniversary gives us a chance to look back on the many great achievements and interesting milestones over the past four decades. Our community is now one of the largest and most diverse in the Perth metropolitan area, while our organisation has become one of the most forward-thinking and respected local governments in Western Australia.
However, as they say “Life begins at 40” and we’ve still got a lot to look forward to in the coming years.
So as Mayor, it gives me great pleasure to say “Happy 40th birthday City of Melville!”
Russell Aubrey
